December 2016

Should I have walked away in the dark?

Should I have left you standing there alone?

The rain came down on that cold and dreary night

But I left as cold as a stone

Should I have asked you to follow me,

To the ends of the earth, to the ends of the sea?

I would’ve given everything just to have you

But would you have done the same for me?

And I know that I’ve made my share of mistakes

And I know that I have regrets

And I know that I can’t go changing the past

But this song is as close as I’ll get

As close as I’ll get

Hold on, hold on, hold on to what you got

Hold on, hold on, hold on it could’ve been us

And I know that I’ve made my share of mistakes

And I know that I have regrets

And I know that I can’t go changing the past

But this song is as close as I’ll get

As close as I’ll get

And I don’t know what would’ve happened if I stayed

I just know that it’d be wrong

But I still have my share of guilt, and my share of pain

And it’s hung on for oh, so long

And I know that I’ve made my share of mistakes

And I know that I have regrets

And I know that I can’t go changing the past

But this song is as close as I’ll get

As close as I’ll get

Capo 1, Standard Tuning

Verse: Em Asus G C/G // Em Asus C/G [x2]

Chorus: Em Dsus4 C/G [x4] // Asus Em

Refrain: Em C G D // E C D

I wrote this right after my high school girlfriend and I broke up; this is as close to an angsty love song I have ever gotten.

We’ve since reconciled, and I consider her a good and dear friend, and our past relationship as an important part of both our lives. God is good.
