Written by John and Madelynne Jones

Wasting time in your living room

Time flies by; will the sun come up soon?

Another book read, it’s a quarter after 10

Nowhere to go, I’m just glad I have a friend

And we’ll stay up all night

Telling jokes and starting fights

Solving all the world’s problems in just one night

A dog on the couch

A duffel bag by the door

We can’t be too loud

‘Cause we’re on the first floor

Old brick walls

A crumble-ing decor

You said you don’t want

To live here no more

And we’ll stay up all night

Spilling secrets while you drink wine

Solving all the world’s problems in just one night

It’s been a long day here

Bumming ’round the town

Chasing corners

Getting lost and found

And we’ll stay up all night

Oh how we’re so refined

Solving all the world’s problems in just one night

Sunrise is just around the bend

But I like to pretend that this’ll never end

But I like to pretend that this’ll never end

I wrote this song with my sister, Madelynne, when I spent a weekend at her apartment in Kansas City. We stayed up late into the night, talking and writing this song (which we did that one night, hence the title), mostly between watching episodes of Gilmore Girls, reading, and talking about the exposed brick wall in the apartment that would occasionally shed little bits of mortar and brick onto the floor.

It remains as one of my favorite songs I’ve written.
